Loopholes in The Education System

“Education: the brick of the house we start building from a tender age.”
With the outbreak of the pandemic COVID’19, no single unit exists which is left untouched by the effects of this disease. In the same scenario, the education industry is one of the industries affected badly. Globally, India is equivalent to other countries, fighting against this disease and amidst this critical situation, India's youngsters are struggling between ‘static’ and ‘dynamic’. Let's have a look at how it is happening.
In the present situation, when most of the knowledge is gained through E-learning resources, now schools and colleges have switched to the same which seems to backfire. Though efforts of teachers and professors can’t go unsung as they are trying their best being in the system and as are they guided by higher authorities. But the bitter truth is, the students who were dynamically engaged in upskilling are now stuck with the static, restricted curriculum of the education system with the advent of this pandemic as there is more cramming than actual learning. Students are unmonitored during online classes and online practicals are proving out to be unimpactful. In schools and colleges, there were lab sessions, and since the students were directly under observation and were performing experiments first hand it was more productive. Now the objective is just to wrap up the syllabus to conduct the examinations and clearly, the focus is nowhere close to the quality of education. Both teachers and students are being the victims of this pressure cooker named ‘Education System’.
Each day this pandemic is hitting harder and is also unveiling the loopholes of the nation's education system. The tradition which is being passed since 1835, when this education system came into existence for the first time. though numerous reforms have been made since then but in vain.
Here’s is the list of the reforms made so far:
  • SWAYAM MOOCs portal
  • National Digital Library (NDL)
  • Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA)
  • Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT)
  •  Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN)
  •  IMPRINT (Impacting Research Innovation and Technology)
  •  The Uchchtar Avishkar Yojana (UAY)
  •  Smart India Hackathon initiative
  • National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF)
  •  Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA)
  • Rashtriya Uchchatar Siksha Abhiyan (RUSA)
  •  Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme
  •  IIM Act
  •  National Scholarship Portal
  • Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan

The education system has become more about completing assignments from which students learn less and copy-paste more, practicals are not taught but learned, the syllabus is for the conduction of examination otherwise no one would have considered it because it is that old piece of the curriculum students have been cramming up since years with much or less up-gradation in it, it doesn't matter whether or not you are present mentally in the class but physical presence is a must be it as ‘Dead mind’ occupying just space.
The need of the hour is that the Indian Education System requires some serious changes so that instead of wasting time to earn a degree, it is made worth time-consuming to have a better future. These changes may include:
  • Course-curriculum needs to be converted according to the latest technologies and demand in the market so that employment becomes easy and students struggle less by the market hit after getting out of the colleges with the completion of graduate degree programs. There is no point of studying for 3-5 years in college and start struggling again for job and survival in the market.
  • Research should be carried out with full dedication to get actual outputs and not to get them on papers.
  • Recreation should be added as a necessary part for every individual.
  • Mentoring needs to be upgraded as most of the students get mentor but at the end all the work is done on behalf of students and mentor takes no notice of the intermediate process students have been going through.
  • Labs should be designed according to the latest technologies and equipments so that students learn things for which they are trained in the beginning of their jobs.
May be you can come up with better or more suggestions except from these, share in the comment box and let's raise the voice to have a better education plan so that students need not struggle to get into foreign countries for higher, more specifically better education.
